Welcome to the personal side of my life.
First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Betsy Tuma. Abbey is my maiden name, but I didn't want to hyphenate my name when I got married, so I just use it as my middle name instead. I live in North Platte, Nebraska but am originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. I am the mother of two amazing kids - Nick and Allison. Fortunately, being a graphic designer I get to work primarily from home, so I spend a lot of time with my kids. You can see pictures of my family by clicking here.
I have been a free spirit most of my life, never quite settling down to do just one thing. As a result, I have a wealth of experiences that I am truly thankful for. I went to college to study theatre. I planned on taking New York by storm & having my first Tony award by the time I was 25. Turns out... I didn't want a Tony as bad as I thought I did.
I have done a lot of crazy things... and have never had stage fright. At one point in my early 20's, I thought I wanted to be a stand-up comedian. I spent the better part of a year at one mike nights, writing, drinking coffee and scrutinizing everything around me for a wisp of something funny. Turns out.... I'm not as funny as you have to be to be funny every night of the week.
A series of strange associations landed me in a position as the Public Relations coordinator and Marketing assistant for USA Shooting, the National Governing Body for Olympic Shooting sports. I worked at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, surrounded by some of the best athletes in the world. Pretty ironic considering that I don't have an athletic bone in my body. While working for USA Shooting, I acquired an appreciation for expensive shotguns and amateur boxing. Not to mention making some really great friends and meeting my husband. (He's not an athlete either... but he's friends with one.)
